As Japanese anime (cartoons) shows such as Pokemon and Naruto gained greater acceptance in western culture, so has the tolerance of Japanese hentai grown. Hentai are materials (usually mangas, or comics) that have a sexual topic. Hentai means ’sexual perversion’ in Japanese and is a term used to describe any media that has a sexual overtone. There are several categories of hentai including futanari (dickgirls), furries (creatures with both human and animal characteristics) and lolicon.

In the 1970’s the translation of Russell Trainer’s book ‘The Lolita’ complex into Japanese, introduced the word ‘lolicon’ into the language when Japanese author Shinji Wanda used ‘lolicon in his parody of Alice in Wonderland; ‘Stumbling upon a cabbage field’. Early lolicon photos were solely manga images with no sexual component, later, ecchi (soft-porn) style pictures began to appear in magazines. These photos were of the ‘pin-up’ variety showing the childlike characters in provocative poses but usually fully clothed or in sheer attire. It wasn’t long before these ecchi images changed into lolicon hentai photos where the characters were in highly sexually suggestive postures. Read the rest of this entry »

In Japan the term lolicon refers to sexually orientated materials that have young pubescent or pre-adolescent individuals as their subject. The word lolicon refers to the ‘Lolita complex’ and as a word, was introduced into Japanese culture by the translation of Russell Trainer’s ‘The Lolita Complex’. The lolicon mangas began in the early 1980’s with artwork by Hideo Azuma. Azuma published some sexual mangas featuring pre-pubescent girls in his doujinshi self-published magazine called Cybele. These became a big hit with schoolboys because until then hentai mangas always featured mature women rather than school aged girls. Read the rest of this entry »

Japanese mangas (comics) have a certain visual style that was inspired by early western animators such as Max Fleischer and Walt Disney. All manga characters have a unique look that is signified by round western eyes (rather than the slanted Oriental eyes), white skin, and extreme hairdos. Japanese mangas cover a multitude of topics, genres and storylines. When the major focus of a manga is sexual in nature, it is referred to as hentai (sexually perverted).
One of the categories of both manga and hentai stories is called Lolicon (after the story Lolita) where the main characters are childlike in appearance. Read the rest of this entry »

The Japanese comic art form was originated in the late 1940’s after the culture was exposed to the animations styles of such American cartoon pioneers as Walter Lanz, and more importantly Walt Disney. Over the years manga (the name for Japanese comics) has developed into a culturally distinct art form. The Japanese social mores about nudity are distinctly different from those in the West and this is reflected in how and what is censored in the media, particularly in print form such as mangas. While censorship exists, it is more in how an image is presented rather than the subject of the presentation. Read the rest of this entry »

It was the Japanese artist and manga publisher Hideo Azuma who first introduced lolicon art into the manga scene with his early works such as ‘The machine that came from the sea’ (Umi kara kita Kikai). Prior to this release, Azuma had been creating doujinshi (Japanese word for independent) publications in his magazine Cybele which featured young prepubescent girls as the subject of these stories.
Lolicon as an art form follows the Japanese art style known as kawaii (translates as cute) which has been extremely popular in Japan. The kawaii style of characterization derives from the bases of Japanese mangas in general. Read the rest of this entry »

It is generally acknowledged that the Japanese lolicon genre of manga was introduced by Hideo Azuma. While the word ‘lolicon’ was first used in a manga story (Stumbling upon a cabbage patch) by Shinji Wada in the early 1970’s, it was in 1980 that Azuma began publishing stories featuring young prepubescent girls. Azuma’s doujinshi (independent) publications featured scantily clad and sometimes nude young females, images that were popular among young schoolboys because the characters were of their age, not mature women. Eventually, as with all popular manga styles and characters, lolicon images changed from simple suggestive ecchi (soft porn) poses to sexual images displaying hot lolicon sex.
